During the 2024 summer conference of the Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association (VTEEA) at Hotel Roanoke, Herman L. Horn Elementary School was named the 2024 Elementary Technology Program of the Year. VTEEA’s Program of the Year Award is one of the highest honors given to Technology and Engineering Education programs and is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession and students. The Program of the Year Award provides public recognition at the local, regional and state levels.
The Program of the Year program is designed to recognize superior Technology and Engineering Education programs in Virginia. These award-winning programs serve as a standard for comparison and models for the development of other programs. Each program selected and recognized reflects contemporary Technology and Engineering Education curriculum and practices. Program of the Year awards are available for elementary, middle, and high school programs.
“At Herman L. Horn, we understand the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in preparing students with the essential 21st Century Skills necessary for success in their future careers,” said Herman L. Horn Elementary School Principal Julie Sandzimier.
“We believe that early exposure to STEM is vital. Our faculty and staff are committed to making our students Opportunity Ready, and we are proud that VTEEA has acknowledged our efforts by naming our school as the Elementary Program of the Year,” Sandzimier said.
